The American Teddywidder

History of the American Teddywidder
The North American Teddywidder Rabbit Club (NATWRC) officially became a nonprofit organization and chartered club in the state of Tennessee on January 14, 2022. However, the journey to establish the American Teddywidder breed began much earlier. Our founders started working on developing the breed in 2016, driven by a passion to create a unique and exceptional rabbit breed to be recognized and shown in American Rabbit Breeders Association shows.

Since then, our team has been diligently working on establishing a breed standard. A major milestone was reached in September 2021 when Neva published the first-ever American Teddywidder Standard of Perfection (SOP) in the United States patterned after ARBA (SOPs). This groundbreaking document has served as the foundation for the breed's development since that time.
Throughout the breed's development, the NATWRC Standards Committee has continually reviewed and refined the Standard, making revisions to ensure its accuracy and effectiveness in guiding breeders and judges.
At the heart of our breed is the motto "All Wool and a Yard Wide," a phrase borrowed from the textile industry that guarantees quality, authenticity, and high standards. For us, this motto represents the exceptional wool quality and exellence of the American Teddywidder, as well as our commitment to excellence, health, and well-being. By embracing this motto, we prioritize the health and well-being of our American Teddywidders. We're dedicated to upholding the highest standards, just as the phrase "All Wool and a Yard Wide" promises.
